“Les jewelry of junk”: on the thread of a sorrow
At the age of 8, Céline Milliat-Baumgartner lost her parents, both killed in a road accident. In the burned carcass of the car lay the couple’s corpses. To identify them, a clue: the jewelry carried by the woman. This terrible story is written and embodied by the orphan, now an actress, with the firmness of the one who managed to survive the worst. No pathos in his diction, no tears flowing, but smiles, tenderness and complicities that are tied with careful audience. The actress speaks to the present (probably also to the missing) from this place she has, time passing, tamed: on the thread of a sorrow she assumes and of despair in which she does not sink. Everything is not true in his story. Never mind. She knits her story with her souvenir ends and she fleshes her with her fertile imagination. Deliciously staged by Pauline Bureau, she sows emotion to each of her words, her steps, her gestures, her eyes. J. GA.
