The Houthist rebels of Yemen and the United States agreed with a ceasefire, said Omani Foreign Minister Badr Al-Boussaïdi on Tuesday, May 6, shortly after Donald Trump announced the end of the American strikes against the insurgents supported by Iran.
“Following recent discussions and contacts led by the Sultanate of Oman with the United States and the authorities concerned in Sanaa (…), Efforts have resulted in a ceasefire agreement between the two parties ”announced the Omani minister, adding that“In the future, neither of the two parties will target the other, including American ships, in the Red Sea and in the Strait of Bab Al-Mandeb”. According to the Omani mediator, this ceasefire will allow “Guarantee freedom of navigation and the fluidity of international maritime trade”.
A little earlier, the President of the United States had assured that the Houthists “No longer wanted to fight. They just don’t want to fight anymore. And we are going to honor this. We will stop the bombings and they have capitulated ”. “They say they will not explode any ships and it was our goal”had added Donald Trump.

The political leader of Houthists, Mahdi Al-Mashat, did not comment on Mr. Trump’s announcement but promised, in a press release, a response “Lightning” Against Israel, ally of the United States.
Affirming to act in solidarity with the Palestinians, the Houthists have claimed dozens of missile and drone attacks against Israel since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip, triggered by the terrorist attack of Hamas, on October 7, 2023. The announcement of the ceasefire was made a few hours after Israeli air bombings that destroyed the Yemenite Capital International Airport Sanaa and left three dead, according to the rebels. The Israeli army said it had put “Completely out of service” The airport. “The takeoff, planes and airport infrastructures have been struck”said the army in a statement, adding that it also affected “Several power plants” in the Sanaa region and a “Ceildwork” north of the capital.
